good bye fireplace :(
we are having our old fireplace removed and a gas fireplace put in tomorrow.
it is sadly no longer safe
.i'm not fond of change so i am sure i will hate the new one for a while but so goes life, full of changes.

I'm with you about change. It always takes me a while to get adjusted, then when I do adjust, I wonder why the heck I had an issue with it. Will we see photos of the new fireplace?
I like your explanation here. It is funny how after a while we can't even remember the "old" one. Change is hard sometimes, but I'm sure the new one will add to your house in different ways with different memories.
I get attached to "things" too. Glad you captured that last photo of the old fireplace before the new one arrives. :-)
